I recently noticed that when I drink alcohol my ears hurt - like I have an infection. However, when they are not drinking, they feel fine. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Good morning I had a problem with oneChest pain after drinking alcoholfor a long time, but then I also realized that my ears hurt from it. it was a very bad pain in my ears to be exact. I told my doctor about it and asked him to run some tests to help me figure out what it is. He did all sorts of tests and everything went well. but then he came to a conclusion – this spot is exactly where the jawbone meets the face. I think in this case it's the jawbone that hurts, not exactly the ear.

I also have ear canal pain after drinking alcoholic beverages..sometimes
The first incident was the most serious. I have isolated no other
Diet/or activity that causes the earache to come on once rather than another

I asked my doctor about this temporary pain behind my ears when I drink alcohol. I think this mostly happens when I drink sweet and sour mixed drinks, but I'm not sure if that's the reason. I've been trying to get answers on this because when it happens it hurts quite a bit behind my ears for a few hours. So go away

The other day I took a sip of a fizzy drink during the pain behind my ear and noticed that the symptoms immediately worsened. I had to spit out the soda and put it on the table until the earache went away.

So far, no doctor has been able to tell me what's going on.

A health educator mentioned that it could be an allergic reaction and that my tissues behind my ears are swelling. I've been trying to find more answers online, hopefully we'll get some.

Did you learn something new?

I have the same problem! I have excruciating pain after the first few alcoholic drinks, but I've found that I get the same from drinking too much vinegar. I'm sure it has to do with alcohol, but whenever I tell anyone... they've never heard of it... have you heard anything?

I understand that too. No one I told it to knew what I was talking about. I usually feel pain, but sometimes I don't. I've had Smirnoff sodas, fruit drinks, and beer. The times I couldn't was when I got really drunk with whiskey or Long Island iced tea — but sometimes it was easy. I haven't had any alcohol in a while but I just had a sip of soda and had this sore feeling under my ear but only for a second. And it happened again. It doesn't bother me but I hate that it lasts so long and I have to try and massage that area but it doesn't really help.

I sometimes have the exact same thing when I drink alcohol. A friend of mine who isn't even a doctor told me it was due to a lack of vitamin C and told me to drink orange, pineapple or grapefruit juice and the pain goes away. Sure enough, he was right. The pain goes away immediately when I eat or drink something high in vitamin C. The relief is immediate. The pain behind my ears disappears immediately.

I have to try the vitamin C because I've had really bad swelling and pain behind my ears when I drink alcohol for years. I don't drink very often because I feel like the pain gets worse every time I drink and the bloating and pain comes on even in the days after drinking alcohol. I'm really glad to hear this has happened to other people too and I'm not a complete idiot!!!

Whenever I drink wine on a plane, I get pains in the bottom of my ears, near my jaw. I think the painful area is called the mastoid or mastoid region. I don't recall drinking any alcohol other than wine on a plane, so I don't know if that would happen with all types of alcohol. I spoke to an otolaryngologist once about this and he said it was due to impurities in the wine. That doesn't explain how wine causes pain near the ears and jaw, but it confirms I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have since spoken to another person who has the same phenomenon when drinking wine on a plane.

I'm no expert but I have the same pain and the little research I've done leads me to believe it's related to a Candida overgrowth. I'm trying a candida diet to see if it goes away (it's really hard).

I found this thread because I was desperate and did a google search asking "Is it possible to get earaches from drinking alcohol?" My pain was long misdiagnosed as "swimmer's ear," but I eventually realized it was directly related to drinking wine. The pain fits the description of the floating ear but after drinking a lot of wine for a few months (my boyfriend is in the wine shop and we were on a tasting program with lots of wines from different countries - hard work but someone etc) I went to visit in my family abstainers, didn't drink a drop for two weeks and no pain. On the train home, a glass of wine and that's it! earache.

It's great to know I'm not imagining it. I'll try Vit too. C or Candida control approach and see what happens.

So I researched this, but along with the ear pain I also get neck pain. The only related thing I can find is some type of lymphoma. This is a bit of a concern for me as I have had a low vitamin D issue for a while. I was wondering if anyone else had ear and neck pain.

I don't have an earache, but I do have neck pain. Almost almost 3 years now if you can believe it. It started with drinking alcohol, now it continues even though I haven't had a drink in a month. My doctors could not explain the cause to me. Hope someone has some info on this.
